Fighter Practice

Fighter Practice © Jason Porter 2010 We use "Fighter Practice" as a generic term for weekly meetings. Meetings are held Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the Whittier Center, 290 N 400 E, Logan, UT. These meetings include a mix of combat practices, Arts & Sciences classes, and Youth Activities.

A map to the Whittier Center from MapQuest.

There will be no Fighter Practice the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's. Videos of Fighter Practice & Dance Practice by Aslak the Awful.

Arts & Sciences

Arts & Sciences classes can be on any subject, skill, craft, or activity people would have done at any time pre-1600. If you would like to teach a class at Fighter Practice, please contact the Minister of Arts & Sciences, THL Cathryn Ann of Newbury. If you would like to teach a class for the youth of our Shire, please contact the Youth Minister, Lady Hallerna. There are also several guilds in the Shire where you can learn specific skills.

Officers' Meetings

Officers' Meetings (aka Business Meetings) are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month. We especially like it when people who think they might be interested in being an Event Steward come to the business meetings. Talk to the Seneschal, Sir Bartholomew Hightower, for more information. We have several positions open, and always need deputies and event stewards.

The next officers' meeting may be sometime in November 2016, or not until January 2017, probably in USU Old Main Hall Room 416. All officers and event/feast stewards (and all those interested in what any of these jobs entail) should plan to attend. Contact the Seneschal for more information.

Combat Information

Requirements for the various fighting styles and their armor requirements can be found at the Artemisian Marshallate. If you have any questions about Heavy (or Armored) Combat, speak with Lord Aslak, the Knight Marshal.

The marshal for Rapier and Cut & Thrust combat is Drayden. Rapier combat is based on Renaissance dueling style, and is similar to Olympic Fencing, except in the round, without the timers, and on the duelists' honor. Cut & Thrust uses elements of both Heavy and Rapier fighting, and has its own armor requirements. Instructions for making a helm such as Dubhglas, then Rapier Marshall, brought on 3 November 2011 can be found at Historical European Martial Arts.

Youth Combat is for children ages 6-15, and the Youth Combat Marshal is m'lord Jon the Handsome. Current Society-wide Youth Combat rules are here on the SCA.org website.

Archery Practice

We currently do not have an Archery Marshall. The Artemisia Archer General is HE Master Bjorn Hrafnsson.

We will be having an Archery Excursion some Wednesday in June to Flora & Aggie's Farm, in place of the regular Wednesday meeting that week. Date (and other info) to be announced. Watch this space!

Dance Practice

The fourth Wednesday is Dance Practice instead of Fighter Practice. It is still held from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the Whittier Center, 290 N 400 E, Logan, UT. We learn medieval dances, English Country dances, and folk dances to a mix of medieval and modern music.
